Flaky console login and server start up

Twice in the last hour I get

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there is an error in the application.

when trying to login to Fornax. The first time I was eventually able to access and start a medium fornax-hea server, however, the first attempt to start a medium high-energy astro server failed. It succeeded the second time.

+1 to this, I also experienced the same thing

Currently unable to re-access science console (getting internal server error again).

This link seems to work (better-ish) for me.

@jeagle - I’ll ping you in teams; so we can see what’s happening…. and check logs while you’re trying to get in.

A temporary work around is the following. If you are met with the prompt to “sign in as <your_username>” and below “sign in as different user”, click the latter. For some reason signing back in through AWS is breaking. @asawyers is looking into a fix for this. It would help if others can confirm whether this issue only happens when selecting “sign in as <your_username>” or elsewhere and whether selecting “sign in as different user” works instead.

I’m looking into this; I think happens when your session has logged out of Cognito and you select ‘login in as …’. - the temporary work around is ‘Login in as other User’ or something close to that….. And relogin. I will see if I can do a fix in the science console or at least more gracefully handle things.

Annoyingly, I cannot reproduce the error. Clicking “sign in as jeagle” works fine now. Signing in by selecting “sign in as a different user” also works fine.

FWIW, Internet/wifi on-site at NASA has been flakey Wednesday and Thursday this week (Sept. 3-4). My Internet has dropped a couple of times for 1-2 seconds, leaving things in a wonky state and making it hard to reestablish smooth operations in things like Teams, mail, google docs, etc. Maybe something similar is happening to the Science Console connection.

True enough. I had the issue while at the office yesterday, which I have not experienced when WFH.

@jeagle Any reason to keep this open?

Until added to the docs?

Adding what?

Sorry. I meant until the workaround of cliking ‘Sign in as a different user?‘ is added to the docs somewhere.

I suppose not. I haven’t encountered the problem again since.

I wasn’t even sure that that was needed for her fix….. ?

I don’t think there is a fix for a ‘flaky server start up’. I was referring to the Cognito re-login issue in this thread. I would be good to capture it in the docs.

I’m not sure I understand what happened here enough to document it. @azoghbi I will assign the ticket to you if you can clarify that.

I was referring to this post. @jeagle, I thought we decided we add it?
