Hello,
I wanted to request my scratch space to be increased to 500 GB for the next 6 months.
I need to reduce ~100-200 XMM-Newton datasets. The XMM software needs write access to the directory with data, so I need to copy all the data and then reduce it (instead of using the read-only data that is mounted). I might need to repeat data reduction with different parameters down the line, and thus the longer time ask.
Thanks!
Your scratch space has been increased to 500 GB. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
thank you! I have two follow up questions:
- if I realize I need more space, is it helpful to ping you to reduce the allocation?
- Will I get reminded before the space might be shrank down again? Or should I make sure to request extension sometime before 6 months is up?
We are actively working on automatic ways to do both the ‘request-more’ and ‘notification’. They are close to being ready. For now, this work is done manually. They will be active before the end of your requested period. Once active, you will be notified before the scratch space is removed.
If you no longer need the scratch space, please reach out and it will be removed so it is not used against your allocated credit.
Note also that for long term storage (typically more than ~2-3 months), we recommend moving what you need to ~/s3-storage (see the S3 storage section in the docs). That uses way less credit, though it is not optimized for heavy read-write processes. The optimal approach is to do you analysis in the scratch space, once you have your data products, you can move them to s3.
